We purchased the KRANIS One loudspeakers for mastering room at Phase One because more than any other speaker system we listened to, they present the truth and nothing but the truth. Regardless of the source material we threw at them, The KRANIS One's conveyed more information than other speakers, and this is so vital to the mastering process that we had no real choice but to end up owning them.

One of the reasons we were given the job of mastering Anne Murray's upcoming new album is that the producer Tommy West liked how clear it sounded on The KRANIS's. Even the smallest of flaws in the program material were easily identified and corrected because of the incredible openness and accuracy of the speakers. They are trully awesome.

The three best products I have encountered in audio (taking into account that I have owned some of the best reviewed products as well as auditioned amplifiers that were $30,000 and speakers that were $100,000) My list is as follows:

1) Kranis Loudspeakers.

The best speaker I have ever encountered made by Steve Kranis and the team at Audio Hardware here in Toronto. They supply most of the high end recording studios here in Ontario. They built custom speakers for Chad and Pharell of the super group The Neptune's that use four 21" drivers (so these guys build for the most discerning audio guys) There work can be seen and Phase one Studios website as well as Pilchner and Schoustal. Top to bottom and side to side if there is something in the recording your listening to, any of his speakers will present it to you. Bass that will crush your chest and highs that sound holographic, they simply float. The best speakers period. I own the K2 model.

I run the Phil Demetro Mastering operation out of Lacquer Channel's studio "A". Originally designed by Terry Medwedyk of Group One Acoustics, it's an unbelievably well conceived mastering environment. It's modular so that I can essentially change the sound of the room as times and trends change. Virtually no limit to how it can sound or do what I want it to do. Very comfortable and the "sonics" translate flawlessly to your favorite system. Speakers are a soffit-mount style speaker (as used by Brian " Big Bass" Gardner & Bernie Grundman) and are custom made to our specifications by Canadian speaker designer Steve Kranis. Built specifically for the dimensions of my mastering studio. I would buy these again tomorrow given the choice.
